Q.
Which is the right school for me?
A. Look to your long-term goals. In the United
States, becoming a licensed landscape architect will offer
you greater flexibility in your professional practice, particularly
if you plan to offer commercial design services. Still, as
a landscape designer you are able to create conceptual landscape
plans that include full planting plans, for your clients.
You may choose to be part of a Design/Build firm and work
with a landscape contractor to install your gardens. Select
the school that best fits your goals, time-line and interests.
Regardless of the design course you choose, landscape construction
technique should be offered in detail. The better you understand
how to build something, the better designer you will be.
Q.
Is the School an accredited institution?
A. While accreditation is required if you are
seeking college credit, it does not automatically ensure you
are getting the highest quality education available. Research
the school thoroughly and check the professional qualifications
of the instructors, including their real-world
experience. While not currently accredited, the California
School of Garden Design is registered with the California
Bureau of Post-Secondary & Vocational Education as a vocational
learning facility.
Q.
Will I be able to gain employment upon completion of
the courses?
A. We have successfully placed approximately
85% of our graduating students through our connections within
the private sector in the Sacramento area. If you are not
from this area, your portfolio and the knowledge gained from
study will open doors with nurseries, landscape contractors
or in your own private practice.
Q.
What if I have no drafting skills?
A. Drafting skills are taught concurrently throughout the
course you will begin designing and using the tools
the first day of class. Students are constantly amazed at
their level of improvement upon course completion.
Q.
You mentioned the Association of Professional Landscape
Designers. Who are they?
A. The APLD; Assoc. ASLAif the only organization
in the United States promoting and lobbying the interests
of the landscape design profession. The APLD; Assoc. ASLAprovides
the only professional certification program for landscape
designers and offers members conferences, local workshops,
continuing education and networking opportunities. Many clients
find designers in their local area through the APLD website, www.APLD.org thus saving us thousands of dollars in advertising costs.
The APLD; Assoc. ASLAis National and International in membership
and is proud to have members of the caliber of Wolfgang Ohme
and John Brookes.
Q.
Is full payment required at the beginning of the course
or do you offer any payment options?
A. Full payment is due by the first day of the
course, with a one hundred dollar, non-refundable deposit
required to hold your seat in the class. This deposit can
be for any class start date that is convenient for you.
We also accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express for
